Everyone Loses

Mark Batterson post:  The Comparison Game

Comparisons are a killer!  We naturally compare ourselves with others whether it’s a score on an exam or box score, the way we look or the way we dress.  But the problem with comparisons is that it leads down one of two pathways: the pathway of jealousy or the pathway of pride.  You can always find someone who you compare to favorably, and it might make you feel good about yourself, but that is a form of pride and a form of false security.  You can also find someone to compare yourself to that will make you feel pretty bad about yourself and jealousy will eat you alive.

Everyone loses in the comparison game.

So what do we do?  Fix your eyes on Jesus.  He is the only sinless standard.  We were made in his image, and that is our destiny: to be conformed to the image of Jesus Christ.  So quit looking at others for comparison points.  Look to Christ.
