Our prayer verse this week has been Colossians 3:12-13:
Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
I'm thinking today about the word "whatever". As in "forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another". We use that word in everyday conversations in ways such as "what do you want to do?" and someone might say .. "whatever". In that context there are not any stated boundaries or conditions. No limits. I don't see any limits here either. Forgive whatever grievances. There are not certain grievances that you should choose to not forgive. We don't want to give the evil one even the smallest foothold in our lives. (Ephesians 4:26b-27 "... Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.")
