Daniel 1:8 says: "Daniel resolved." And the rest is history!
I'm beginning a Daniel fast this week so I'm reading thru Daniel. The thing that jumps out at me is the way the entire story of Daniel traces back to a single resolution. Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the king's food and drink. It was a physical and spiritual resolution. And Daniel would have never attained his position of influence without making that resolution. He would have never interpreted dreams or become famous for surviving the lion's den without making that resolution. That single resolution changed his life! And his life isn't unlike ours. I know many people dismiss resolutions as short-lived ideals, but they are more than that. If they are promises to God or pursued for God's purposes, they have the power to alter your destiny.
For the record, you don't have to make resolutions before the clock strikes midnight on December 31. I'd actually encourage you to make resolutions after a season of fasting. Take time to think and pray and plan. I think January is a great month to think about the changes you need to make. It's a great time to think about the habits that you want to stop or start. And then you make a holy resolution.
Through the night my soul longs for you. Deep from within me my spirit reach out to you. Isaiah 26 (The Message)
